Trunk bump

The Oregon Zoo used to exercise Chendra, its baby Asian elephant, by walking her around the neighborhood in the morning. Here’s Chendra at the zoo’s Stellar Cove in 2007, saying hi to a sea lion named Gus.

In the wild, Asian and Indian elephants are endangered by poaching, hunting, and destruction of habitat. Sea lions face hunting, pollution, and entanglement in fishing equipment. The Oregon Zoo recommends helping at-risk species by taking Small Actions. For instance, you can plant wildlife-friendly flowers in your yard to aid bumblebees. Check out more of the zoo’s helpful tips here!

Happy Easter!

Posted: April 16th, 2017 | Author: | Filed under: T Writes | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Celebrating Easter can be hard on pets. This unfortunate reveler has one question on its mind: WHO DID THIS TO ME?

All the usual suspects are undercover, of course. Thanks to paper plates and craft supplies.

Some are hiding under a shell.

And even Mom is incognito.

“Mom” image found at this fun website.

Maybe this mystery will be solved. Maybe not. But all Easter-frocked pets deserve an extra treat today!

Frosty fails

How great is it to come across a cheerful snow person on a field of freshly fallen white stuff? The sight of so much nice ice warms the heart just enough to take the chill off the cold season.

But bringing these frigid folks into the kitchen in the form of holiday treats is tricky. Many have tried, and many have failed.

Thinking of giving it a go? Here’s a useful hint. It doesn’t help to use yellow icing!

Thanks, Jack Davis!

Legendary Mad Magazine artist Jack Davis departed this mortal realm today. He drew many classic Mad covers and contributed countless hilarious images to my favorite magazine of all.

He was also a well-known artist in the world of horror comics. Look how well he captured the greatest monsters of all time!

Here’s his take on Tarzan.

And his anti-smoking look at cigarette advertising. Don’t smoke, people!

Thank you for bringing so much fun to life, Jack Davis!

And by the way…Mad Magazine is alive and well in the 21st Century. Take a look!
